Loans of works for exhibitions

The Museu Carmen Thyssen Barcelona, through the Fundación Arte y Legado Barcelona, lends works from the Carmen Thyssen Barcelona Collection on a temporary basis for external exhibitions. Most works are available for loan, except those that, for conservation reasons or because they are on display in the permanent exhibition, must remain at the Museum, or that are on loan to other museums and institutions on the requested dates.

Loan requests are accepted only from museums, institutions and foundations. Given the Museum’s responsibility for its heritage, loans are not granted to private individuals, private companies or commercial galleries, nor for promotional or propaganda purposes.

Loan requests are assessed according to factors intrinsic to the work (condition, how often it has been exhibited and availability) and extrinsic factors (the exhibition project and the conditions offered by the venue, which must be documented in a facility report).

Loan requests must be submitted at least six months before the exhibition opens, so that all the necessary official procedures can be completed.

The Loans Committee of the Fundación Arte y Legado Barcelona meets approximately every three months to review the requests received. After each meeting, the requesting institution receives an official letter with the decision on the requested loan.

Once a loan has been approved, the Museum sends the borrowing institution the specific loan conditions for the work or works regarding installation, couriers, insurance, conservation and catalogue.
