Da Gaudí a Picasso
Barcelona is the true protagonist of this exhibition. It invites visitors on a journey to discover the fundamental role the city played in shaping modern art, from the late 19th century to the first decades of the 20th.
From the Romantic landscape painters to the avant-garde, by way of the splendour of Modernisme, the exhibition shows how Picasso, Miró and Dalí cannot be fully understood without knowing their teachers, contemporaries and rivals, or without grasping the vibrant energy with which Barcelona embraced modernity.
Along the way, the exhibition reveals how the city’s port, streets, nightlife and changing social fabric became central themes for many artists, forging an unbreakable bond between Barcelona and the art it inspired.
The exhibition brings together 101 works from the Carmen Thyssen Collection. Below, a selection of 8 works.
